Reflecting on the first year of AdaptaKind: A purpose-driven journey at The Adaptavist Group
As we celebrate one year of AdaptaKind, The Adaptavist Group's corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, it's inspiring to reflect on how much we've accomplished together.
This initiative started with a vision, ignited by our CEO, who asked three of us (Harp Athwal, Phill Fox, and Ava Maitland) to bring our commitment to Pledge 1% to life and build a CSR programme that could make a real difference. Launched globally on 6 October 2023, AdaptaKind was born as a platform to empower our colleagues through volunteering, fund matching, and donation recognition. With a structure that offers up to £1,000 (or the local currency equivalent) in fund matching per person and £500 in volunteer rewards per employee, AdaptaKind aims to amplify the impact our people can make in their communities.
Our end-of-year celebrations across four locations last year really helped to spread the word and knowledge about our new AdaptaKind initiatives, with volunteers across the company helping to fill backpacks with essentials, building wheelchairs, and painting toy cars for children in need ahead of the holiday season.
Key milestones: donations, volunteering, and TAG's contributions
Our journey so far has exceeded expectations. Across The Adaptavist Group (TAG), 768 of our colleagues donated over $50,000 USD to 621 causes. Alongside their individual generosity, TAG itself contributed over $573,500 to charitable causes, reinforcing our commitment to driving positive change and giving back to communities. Additionally, 60 employees collectively recorded 2,329 volunteer hours across 29 causes, a reflection of the compassion and dedication that lives within our teams at TAG. Beyond this, we continue to provide support and relief for employee-led volunteering where communities have been affected by disasters such as earthquakes in Turkey or, more recently, the catastrophic floods in Spain.
Supporting education and community with United World Schools and Ascent Soccer
Our charity partnerships have also been central to AdaptaKind's impact. Our long-term partner, Ascent Soccer, empowers the youth of Malawi by combining athletic and academic opportunities at their campus in East Africa. This year, one of their scholars, Rose, has become the first ever player from Malawi (male or female) to make a pro football move to one of Europe's top five leagues, and three of their male scholars were in the U20 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Mozambique. Ascent Soccer promotes female empowerment in Malawi and Uganda through full scholarships and soccer training, aiming for gender parity with a 50 percent female student body by 2025. Their programmes provide girls and boys with elite soccer coaching, character development, and a STEAM-based education focused on sustainability. They have just finished building the most eco-friendly football academy in Sub-Saharan Africa, and we are excited to announce that we have supported the Malawi Robotics Foundation to deliver a coding and robotics course to the students. The course will teach both the children and their teachers to provide a sustainable tech education in our capacity as Education Pillar Partner for Ascent.
In parallel, TAG partnered with United World Schools (UWS), a charity that focuses on expanding access to quality education for children in remote areas, building and supporting schools in regions lacking basic educational infrastructure. UWS works alongside local communities in Cambodia, Nepal, Myanmar, and Madagascar, training teachers and adapting curricula to meet cultural and regional needs while promoting sustainability and community ownership. Their mission is to bridge educational gaps, empowering children with skills and knowledge for a brighter future. So far, the support of TAG has educated 550 students, equipped classrooms, and enabled targeted female empowerment programs to pioneer gender inclusivity in education.
These partnerships embody our commitment to long-lasting impact and reflect our AdaptaKind pillars of community, sustainability, and education. We stand with Ascent Soccer and UWS in their commitment to providing children with not just access to quality education, but a foundation for brighter futures. It is important to us that these are true partnerships where we learn and build together. In that spirit, our in-house design team at Brew Digital have been supporting UWS by reviewing and enhancing their website, and our TAG poker nights for Ascent Soccer in London and Toronto raised over $60,000 collectively.
Building a culture of giving
The response to AdaptaKind has been phenomenal, highlighting that our values resonate deeply across all parts of TAG around the world. From individual volunteering to group efforts, supported by line managers who care enough to factor AdaptaKind efforts into their team's KPIs and team-building activities, TAG's culture of giving is growing. We have recognised and honoured individuals who have gone above and beyond with volunteering, from helping at dog shelters to giving blood or mentoring and raising up children in underprivileged communities. It’s been heart-warming to see the level of engagement, and through individual actions, employees have supported the causes they feel strongly about, empowered by AdaptaKind—in turn inspiring others to give time and energy to causes they believe in. Individuals have organised walks, team get-togethers, food drives, marathons, cycles, and even prepared to swim the Channel to raise awareness and funds for humanitarian and charitable causes close to their hearts.
Looking ahead: growing AdaptaKind together
Reflecting on this journey, we're reminded that AdaptaKind is about more than numbers; it's about nurturing a sustainable culture of giving and responsibility. Our first year has shown that when a community of people is united by purpose, incredible things are possible. We're grateful for everyone who contributed and look forward to seeing AdaptaKind continue to grow and inspire even more change in the coming years. At times when global conflicts and political divisions can cast a shadow, coming together to volunteer and perform acts of kindness becomes even more essential to remind us of our shared humanity.
Thank you to each team member who has been part of AdaptaKind's inaugural year. You are truly making a difference, and we look forward to continuing to build on these strong foundations.
